Rang De Basanti is a film about a contemporary youth. The story tells about a group of young Indians and a British Girl. This film take a deep look into the Indian culture, traditional and its relevance in the contemporary times. As a DJ (Aamir Khan) and his friends work on Sue's (Alice) project on making documentary on the Indian Revolution, they begin to see themselves as the actual descendants of the great men who are the protogonists of Sue's movie.

Ramji (R. Madhavan) is an excellent cook from a village in Bihar called Takipur. Forced to come to England to work as a chef inorder to pay for his sister's weddign, Ramji finds himself wondering aimlessly in the streets of London. To add to his difficulties, Ramji loses his passport and visa whilst traveling on the London underground. COmletely lost in the city, a minor incident soon gets him a job as a chef in an Indian restaurant. Even though his life seems to have taken a terrible down turn, Ramji with his rural charm, earthy wisdom and pure-as-gold heart manages to turn the tide and eventually comes up trumps.

Jakie Sharof who is an expert in special effect in film and he is greatly interested in his work. Nisha (Juhi Chawla) helps in his work. The Home Minister (Paresh Rawal) is his own evil motives takes advantage of the skills of Jakie and trap him in his dirty scheme and in the name of fake encounter he gets the real Police Commisioner (Alok Nath) killed at the hands of Jakie Sharof. Now Jakie is fully trapped in the clutches of home minister. Will Jakie Sharof able to be free himself from the cluthes of home minister...... ?
